Uni-Span is an International supplier of Formwork and Scaffolding and supplies a full range of products to provide decking, walling, scaffolding and supportwork systems.
Uni-Span's head office is in Johannesburg South Africa with branches in Durban, Cape
Town, Mozambique and Botswana. They have international operations in the
Far East and South America with branches in Chile, Peru, Colombia and
Argentina. Uni-Span offers three alternatives to their customers to fulfill
their formwork and scaffolding requirements. Uni-Span sells new products
at competitive prices direct from their factory. Uni-Span have substantial
stocks at all their branches where they offer the full range of equipment
on hire and also provide all contract services to erect scaffolding as
well as decking, walling and column formwork.
Uni-Span has a comprehensive C.A.D design facility which is linked internationally through the Internet. Superior products, design expertise, and world class service has resulted in Uni-Span being a preferred supplier to many of the international contractors worldwide.
In the 1960's the South African construction industry converted from timber shuttering to steel formwork. To cater for the infrastructural boom of this time, the best products and systems from Europe were selected and introduced into the market by the South African formwork companies.
By 1989, when Uni-Span South Africa commenced operating in Johannesburg, South African construction companies had chosen and standardised on all-steel formwork and scaffolding. Uni-Span's business concept was to supply the complete South African system both locally and internationally. Uni-Span's products are versatile and interchangeable and can be supplied either on hire, sale or contract for the construction of concrete structures, including high-rise office and apartment buildings, low-cost housing projects and civil works such as bridges, reservoirs, tunnels and dams.
Uni-Span's strategy for expansion is to market its products to other emerging markets. It first moved into Botswana, the fastest growing economy in Africa, where it is a market leader, and has subsequently entrenched its products in southern, central and northern Africa. In 2001 Uni-Span West Africa was incorporated to supply the lucrative Nigerian market.
In 1994 Uni-Span entered the South American market. At that time the Chilean contractors were using timber shuttering, but they recognised the need for a more sophisticated and modern, durable formwork and scaffolding system. Uni-Span was soon supplying the leading contractors with its robust, easy-to-handle and fast-to-erect steel systems. In the late 1990's Uni-Span Chile expanded its market into Peru, Colombia and Argentina.
While the Uni-Span Chile team was opening up South America, Uni-Span South Africa was negotiating large contracts in South East Asia. Again Uni-Span realised the potential of the market and in less than three years Uni-Span is recognised as one of the leading suppliers of steel formwork and scaffolding systems in Malaysia.
Uni-Span design centres utilise sophisticated CAD systems to ensure accurate and prompt service to customers.
Uni-Span's design engineers work closely with clients to engineer the most practical and cost-efficient formwork and scaffolding solution to a project.
Uni-Span's fully mechanised plant has sophisticated steel and plate cutting equipment and computerised bending brakes. The ISO 9001 quality assurance programme ensures that all products meet the highest standards required by customers.
Uni-Span's service engineers provide on site supervision. As soon as the equipment is delivered to the site, Uni-Span personnel supervise the initial assembly of the equipment to be erected in accordance with the drawings prepared by Uni-Span's design department.
Our ongoing research and development programme ensures that we constantly produce innovative products to meet the ever-changing demands of the construction industry. By working in close conjunction, our design, technical development and quality control teams ensure that new standard products match and often exceed international specifications.
Uni-Span customers can either purchase our products or have the option to hire equipment from our well stocked hire centres.
Some of the benefits of this option are:
- No capital outlay required
- Exact quantities of appropriate, up-to-date equipment supplied at the right time
- Additional equipment can be ordered during operations and surpluses returned
- Prompt delivery and collection
- All equipment is fully maintained
- Hire invoice system provides effective contract costing control
Extensive research in the fields of civil and mechanical engineering has resulted in the provision of an effective, economic and versatile all-steel formwork system. The simplicity of the system, particularly with regard to the few pieces used, results in high productivity in its erection and stripping, making it the most effective on the market.
